This three day course provides a comprehensive review of brain imaging and monitoring in the newborn. The first two days focus on cranial ultrasound in the newborn and an introduction to MRI. The third day is devoted to aEEG (CFM) in the newborn. The course consists of practical hands on workshops, lectures and small group teaching.

The course is relevant to neonatal trainees, nurse practitioners, radiographers and anyone else interested in brain imaging and monitoring in the newborn. You can register for the full 3 day course, for the 2 day neonatal cranial ultrasound or just for the single day aEEG.

Day 1 (topics include)

Principles of ultrasound

Basic cerebral anatomy

Basic scanning techniques

Hands on demonstration of scanners before practical session

Practical neonatal scanning

Haemorrhagic lesions in the preterm infant

White matter lesions in the preterm infant

Day 2 (topics include)

Cerebral infection

Congenital brain lesions

Acquired brain lesions

Neonatal encephalopathy

Introduction to MRI

Case workshops

Prognosis and clinical implications of ultrasound lesions

Counselling parents


Day 3 (topics include)

aEEG (CMF) in the newborn

£500.00 (£300.00 Addenbrookes/ £455 EoE Trainee)
